There are two Rail Companies in Britain, although both offer links throughout the country the your overall travel arrangements may influence your decision.

The Great North Eastern Railway from Kings Cross runs North to York City between the Yorkshire Moors and Dales to Darlington on Teesside the Birthplace of The Railways.  The line then continues to Durham City, Newcastle and up the Northumberland Coast to Berwick upon Tweed before traversing west through the Border Lothian Lowlands to Edinburgh and onto Glasgow.
